David Whittle, Greenhalgh’s Vehicle Maintenance Manager, hung up his overalls for the very last time on Thursday 11th January 2018 after five decades working at Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery. David was presented with a luxury cruise and a long-service certificate by David Smart, Managing Director (pictured) of Greenhalgh’s at the Company’s special celebration evening on Thursday 28th September 2017, surrounded by friends, work colleagues and his wife Jane.
David’s career at Greenhalgh’s started in 1968 as a young garage apprentice where he trained and later on took over the reins of Vehicle Maintenance Manager. David said: “I will miss working very much, and mostly I will miss the camaraderie of the staff. I enjoy walking and spending time with my wife Jane, and will be able to enjoy longer holidays when I want to. I do feel very sad and I think it is time to take a back seat and let the younger ones continue their good work.”
David will be sorely missed by his work colleagues – he was considered to be a really lovely person and one of the Company’s favourite staff members. This is reflected in his dedication to us all past and present.
David Smart, Greenhalgh’s Managing Director said” we are honoured to have received so many years’ service from David. I want to wish David a very happy retirement and thank him for everything he has done for the Greenhalgh’s over the years and his dedication. He will be missed by us all”
To celebrate David’s last and final day on Thursday 11th January 2018 the Company surprised him by presenting him with further gifts and a guard of honour as he was leaving.
