Raising a different kind of dough, for Alzheimer’s Society!

Raising a different kind of dough, for Alzheimer’s Society!

2nd August 2018

David Smart our bakery boss took to the hills in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society and raised above and beyond our £6000 target because of your help! In just two weeks he crossed country from one coast to another and travelled 192 miles.

The walk began in St Bees and followed the Wainwright Route which is a mammoth trek leading to Robins Hood’s Bay. The walk runs through three national parks and is challenging as well as beautiful and seemed the perfect location to honour Mrs Smart, and celebrate David’s 60th year.

After beloved “Kathleen Mary Smart” passed away Easter Monday, April 17th, 2017 suffering greatly from Alzheimer's disease, David wanted to raise as much as he could to help the other 520,000 people in the UK with the cruel disease, in the hopes that one day there will be a cure.

“After I lost my mum it made sense to do the walk on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society. It’s such a cruel disease!

“Currently, there is no cure, so let’s join The Alzheimer’s Society and together we'll finally beat it for good!

“It’s so important to make sure those affected by dementia are supported and accepted in their community without fear or prejudice”

This cause is very close to our hearts as a family business and we would like to say thank you to our customers, fellow businesses, and staff, who have all donated to the amazing charity as well as sharing their stories of loved ones with us!

David has shared his experience with fellow walker and friend Mark Power who completed the two week trek on behalf of “The Huntington’s Disease” charity.

If you would like to see what they both got up to you can watch their video diaries on Youtube
