More Information on our Breads

Our breads are baked using the traditional time honoured natural long fermentation process. Fermentation creates the distinctive full flavoured taste and crisper crusts much loved by our customers. The loaf stays softer longer, without the need for artificial additives or preservatives. Bread is good for you our main focus is to provide our customers with healthy, delicious fresh bread every day of the week.

Bread is such an important part of our lives that it should be taken more seriously and enjoyed to the full. We're excellent bakers......our aim is to provide the best quality, freshest bread money can buy, we want to turn buying bread into a pleasure rather than a daily chore.

Bread is perhaps the most important item in our diet. It is ideal for making sandwiches, for picnics, for breakfast and lunches. Our breads are set apart from the rest. You will notice the difference from the first bite the powerful flavour, distinctive crust and unique textures deliver an experience that can be achieved only through a passion and commitment to creating the perfect breads.

Bread does not contain as many calories as many people believe. Indeed, being high in fibre, rich in starch and low in fat, it is in fact a less concentrated source of calories than many other foods. When it comes to healthier eating, it's what you put on your bread that counts.

We use the best wheat from the best wheat growing area in the world. We produce distinctive breads, imagine a world without bread and grains it would not be just a lonely place, it would be an unhealthy place as well. All too often we rely on processed, packaged loaves that are generally low in nutrients and uniform in taste.

The only fat used in Greenhalgh's bread is pure vegetable fat, not Hydrogenated. All our breads are suitable for vegetarians.

Our breads are therefore unique and natural, more enjoyable and healthier for you, once tasted, you will crave for more.

Further Information

Freezing of Bread materials and the methods used in the baking, our bread freezes and recovers well if the following conditions are met:

  1. The fresh loaf of bread is placed in a sealed Greenhalgh's freezer bag (N.B. Smaller units of bread, flour cakes, small scotch etc, do freeze better than large bread).
  2. The temperature of the freezer should be 0F to 5F (-18C to -20C). The bread should be brought down to this temperature as quickly as possible to avoid staling.
  3. To revive the just baked character, microwave on full power (400gm loaf for 3 minutes and 800gm loaf for 5 minutes). Then re-crisp in a pre-heated oven at 200C for a further 5 minutes.
