Pasty Award for Multi Platinum Artist

Pasty Award for Multi Platinum Artist

10th October 2011

What do a chart topping pop act and a local craft bakers have in common? This chart topping boyband has received plaudits from the MOBOs and the Brits but now, pop crooner Aston Merrygold of JLS fame can add another string to his bow, the ‘Asty Pasty’ - an award from Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery.

The Bolton based family bakers has made a unique pasty in honour of Aston Merrygold - commonly referred to as ‘Asty’ by his legions of fans.

This special edition pasty made from tuna, red onion, pasta, cheese sauce and seasonings within a puff pastry, was created by David Smart, the Production Director at Greenhalgh’s following an email from 15 year olds Chloe Perks and Georgia Cornwell of Preston. The girls came up with the idea as part of a bid to meet their idols and Greenhalgh’s was more than happy to help them out with this unique creation.

Sandra Ogden stated: “We are inundated with either location suggestions for new stores or ideas for new products, but the girls really stood out! Their passion was inspirational and with X-Factor fever about to take over the nation, we felt obliged to help. JLS are undoubtedly one of the most successful acts that have been generated from the hit show and we hope they feel that our latest creation is a worthy accolade. We’re not sure if our loyal customers will be swapping their favourite Lancashire pasty for an ‘Asty Pasty’, but Chloe and Georgia obviously believe in it and we’re sure a few people will at least be intrigued enough to try it. Only time will tell how popular the ‘Asty Pasty’ will be.”

Chloe added: “I couldn’t believe it when Greenhalgh’s got back to me about our idea. We wanted to create something that was truly unique in honour of the band. I’m not sure whether Ortise, Marvin and JB will be jealous, but perhaps we can come up with a product for each of them as well!”

The ‘Asty Pasty’ will be on sale in all 60 Greenhalgh’s stores across the North West from Thursday 13th October 2011 and will cost £1.00.
