Sandra Ogden attends the Greenland Summit

Future trends and sustainability 2009 A baking industry summit Ilulissat, Greenland

05/06/2009

Greenhalgh’s was invited by European baker magazine and Novozymes to a once in a life time opportunity to visit Greenland and participate in “Future trends and sustainability 2009” a baking industry summit, this took place in Ilulissat, Greenland between 26th–28th May 2009.

Sandra Ogden Greenhalgh’s Retail Sales Manager joined representatives from Industrial bakeries and bread improver companies to engage with key opinion leaders on trends, needs and concerns within the industry. The programme included the following keynote presentations and speakers.

  • Presentation on Industry trends: Lynn Dornblaser (Mintel)
  • Innovation in baking: Terry Sharp (Campden BRI)
  • Industrial Solutions to sustainability: Pal Ladsten (Novozymes)
  • Retail Perspective on sustainability: Flemming Birch (Retail Inst. Scandinavian)

Ilulissat was the perfect background for the summit, during this time we were fortunate to have a sightseeing tour and sail amongst the icebergs.

Ilulissat is a charming town where the coloured wooden buildings on the hills blend with the modern buildings in a close interaction between human life and wild nature. The many dog sledges parked outside the houses speak for themselves, and with lots of activity in and around the harbour where numerous dinghies constantly enter and leave on their way to and from fishing close to the huge icebergs. The ice fiord off Ilulissat is like a park full of sculptures constantly changing shapes colours and sounds from the ice mountains. I was an eye witness to a totally enchanting natural phenomenon.
