Greenhalghs in the Top 20 British Retail Bakers

20/02/2009

Significant expansion plans by North West based Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery has seen this family bakers move into British Bakers’ top 20 list of bakery retailers as announced this month [January 2009] in the magazine’s 2009 UK league table.

Despite the economic slowdown Greenhalgh’s, which employs over 900 people, is standing firm with more new store openings planned for 2009. This will see its shop portfolio rising beyond the existing 54, which currently stretch from Cumbria into Merseyside and across Lancashire and Greater Manchester where it has the majority of its stores.

David Smart, production director at Greenhalgh’s said: “2008 saw Greenhalgh's go from strength to strength as the company moved into new regions including Cumbria and Merseyside. These are challenging times but our philosophy has always been the consistency of our core product together with maintaining quality and value for money. Careful shop positioning, constant review of our product lines and careful pricing policy are also keys to prosperous survival. You have to be prudent but keep your goals in sight."

“We are cautiously optimistic about the year ahead and we are certainly very pleased with the above average footfall we have recently experienced in a number of our stores.”

We purchased some of your delicious products from your shop in Marple whilst passing through on the canal. Do you have any outlets in the Midlands/ Leicestershire where I live?
