Greenhalgh’s is extremely proud to announce that at its recent fundraising evening held at The Village on the Green, Aspull, Wigan, on Saturday 11th April 2015 it raised a total of £1320.00 for the PSPA Charity. We chose this charity to honour Mr Ronald Greaves (the father of our Westhoughton shop manager Susan Settle) who succumbed to this disease.

This remarkable fundraising achievement is all down to the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of Greenhalgh’s, their staff, family, friends and customers. PSP is caused by the progressive death of nerve cells in the brain, leading to difficulty with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing. It is so called because it is:

• Progressive – it gets steadily worse over time

• Supranuclear – it damages parts of the brain above the pea-sized ‘nuclei’ that control eye movements

• a Palsy – it causes weakness

Hopefully, in the future, research will lead to new treatments to stop or at least slow down the progression of the condition.
